 Gone But Not Forgotten

"Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of the brave who serve on high.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
A toast to the host of those we boast, the U.S. Air Force!"

Next-of-Kin Support Services
Upon notification and confirmation of the death of a graduate, Air Training Officer or cadet, the AOG will:

  • Notify the class by email
  • Update the Gone But Not Forgotten section of the website
  • Send flowers or a memorial donation on behalf of the class (see below)
  • Send a condolence letter from the AOG chief executive officer to the next of kin
  • Update the AOG records and database
  • Offer the next of kin the opportunity to submit a memorial article to be published in the Gone But Not Forgotten section of Checkpoints magazine
  • Invite next of kin to next annual memorial ceremony

Flowers/Memorial Donation: A red, white and blue shaped flower arrangement is sent along with a card reading "With Deepest Sympathies, USAFA Class of XXXX" in time for the funeral by agreement with each class. Flowers are not sent if notification is received after the funeral. If the family requests a memorial donation in lieu of flowers, that information is included in the announcement and the money that would normally be used for flowers is sent to that charity on behalf of the class.

Next-of-Kin Memorial Ceremony: Deceased graduates, Air Training Officers and cadets are honored at an annual memorial ceremony each August. Next of kin are invited to the Air Force Academy to participate in a special reception with the Academy's senior staff prior to the ceremony on the Terrazzo. The Air Force Academy Association and Foundation issue invitations, organize the reception, prepare the brochure and provides the ceremonial wreath.
